After two consecutive years marked by less than ideal weather conditions, dominated by light wind, the organizers of Les Voiles de St. Barth, François Tolède and Luc Poupon, have decided to add a fifth day to the regatta, for the first time in its history.
The 9th edition will officially begin on April 8, 2018, with an opening ceremony on Sunday evening, and the first race scheduled for Monday afternoon. There will be three days of racing from Monday through Wednesday, with the traditional day off on Thursday so the crews can rest and take advantage of the beauty of St. Barthélemy, plus two additional days of racing on Friday and Saturday.
“Our goal is above all to listen to the participants,” explains Luc Poupon. “In extending the length of the regatta, we are adding to their sense of competitiveness.”
So for next year, we are looking forward to great sailing as well as surprises on the podium. Everybody get ready!
Since 2011, Les Voiles de St. Barth has been proud to present a donation of 20,000 euros to the Saint Barth Yacht Club, a non-profit organization, in support of their nautical activities for younger kids and teenagers in Saint Barthélemy.
Every year, more than 400 students from fifth to eighth grade are introduced to sailing through the Saint Barth Yacht Club. Training sessions also take place during school vacations to make sure that the largest number of people can learn to sail.
The Saint Barth Yacht Club also uses some of the donated funds to participate in international regattas such as the French Junior Championships, organized this year on July 8-14 in Martigues.
