Brief History
Barrett Town is situated in the parish of St. James, approximately 23 km from the parish capital Montego Bay. It was cane property once owned by John Rollins. Barrett Town was named after the first family, named Barrett, in the area.

In 1972 the Ministry of Education Youth and Culture built a school in that area called Barrett Town Primary School. There were about 300 children on roll with about six (6) teachers on staff. The school served students between the ages 6 – 12 years.  Barrett Town Primary School later changed to Barrett Town All Age School. The Principal saw the need of helping the young boys and girls that did not passed their Common Entrance Examination. The Ministry of Education Youth and Culture accepted this.

There are several hotels near to Barrett Town; these are Iberostar, Sea Castle, Rosehall Hotel and Half Moon. The people of Barrett Town work at a number of the hotels.
