Caribbean FashionShowcase Party For People and Palate

Chef George Matthews, affectionately referred to as JAM Chef by his clientsIts ability to select and showcase the best of the best of the Caribbean has made the OCEAN Style FashionShowcase Weekend a coveted annual experience for movers and shakers from the region. Thanks to its recent partnership with innovative ‘foodpreneur’ Pop-Up Gourmet, attendees can add foodie paradise to the long list of titles that the event has earned itself over the seven years of its staging.

Pop-up Gourmet Jamaica’s pairing with OCEAN Style means that pleasing of palate will be given as much attention as other key elements of the three-day event. Its all-white party, Eyes Wide Shut, on Friday evening will feature the highly anticipated Pop-Up Food Court, where local fare will be given pride of place. For the occasion, three sought-after Jamaican chefs have been invited to showcase their talent – Collin Brown, JamChef’s George Matthews, and culinary artist extraordinaire Oji Jaja. They will be taking old favourites and presenting them in fresh and exciting ways that will delight even the most sophisticated. In addition, three of Montego Bay’s dining hotspots will also be tantalising patrons with their dishes. TOP IN THE WEST Much-loved Mystic India will prove to patrons why it is remains the number-one rated restaurant on Trip Advisor in western Jamaica. The best barbeque joint in the west, Biggs will also be there, along with Marguerites, known for its sumptuous seafood dishes in an exquisite location ensconced right on the seaside. Incidentally, all three locations partnered with Pop-Up Gourmet on their recently launched Pop-Up Gourmet Advantage Card. Much to the delight of the golfers, there will also be a Pop-Up Gourmet station featuring deliciously decadent bites by AA Rosette recipient Chef Collin Brown on the greens. One lucky golfer will win a privately catered dinner for eight prepared by executive culinary artist Oji Jaja. To have secured the service of three independent chefs of such high calibre is no mean feat. After all, between the three of them, they have prepared meals for an array of stars, diplomats and even royalty. The list includes Prince Michael, Kelly Rowland, the Rockefeller family, P Diddy, Angie Stone and Christina Milian. SHOWCASING J’CAN CUISINE CEO Jason Peart stated: “We are pleased to present the Pop-Up Gourmet Culinary Experience to such a savvy audience. Our objective for this staging is to show the world that Jamaican cuisine can stand head and shoulders with the best that the world has to offer. With this in mind, we have invited three chefs who are thrilled to have an opportunity to showcase our modern Jamaican cuisine.” The Pop-Up CEO added: “For us, shining the spotlight on Jamaican Cuisine means recognising the roles that other cuisines have and continue to play in its development and, as such, we have also invited three established and highly regarded restaurants to participate in the POP-UP GOURMET food court.” Some of the mouth-watering dishes on the menu include spicy pulled pork in lettuce rolls with Red Stripe barbecue sauce, sweet potato curry bites with yogurt mint and lime dip, and the J amChef’s to-die-for barbecue oxtail.
