Much like Infinity Villa, the history of St. Thomas is invaluable. Christopher Columbus is said to have discovered St. Thomas in 1493, but he wasn’t impressed so he left it be. Consequently, the island was left to be manned by pirates and other small groups until the West Danish India Company occupied it under the order of King Christian in 1671. The community was lackluster and sparse, leaving it unable to attract profitable ventures. This led to the Taphus (beer houses), which has now become the city of Charlotte Amalie that can be seen from the Infinity Villa. Economically, St. Thomas began to thrive through ports and ships and it officially became part of the United States on March 31, 1917. Because of its history, the locals have a respect and appreciation for tourism and several religious and government landmarks can be found here, including the infamous 99 Steps.
