NEW YORK, NY (November 2013) – This is a Kenneth Cole Production examines the past three decades of designer Kenneth Cole’s life – from his earliest days learning the shoe business from his father to building his empire into a brand powerhouse – both in the fashion industry and in the public eye. Electing to live a life of conscience, and to build a company that helps support important social causes, Kenneth Cole is a truly original yet classic American success story. All book proceeds will be donated to amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research.
Kenneth Cole distinguished himself in the fashion world for footwear and fashion that captures a young, ‘very New York’ urban style, but also through his passionate social activism and the provocative way he has used fashion advertising as a platform for this discourse. With bracing wit, irreverence and uncommon courage, his ads speak out in support of the HIV/AIDS community, gun control, same-sex marriage, and the homeless. Kenneth Cole ads have raised substantial awareness about these and other critical social issues, and also have garnered some lively hate mail as well — all of which is explored in this book with the passion and humor for which Cole is known. Fans are offered insight on how Kenneth Cole followed his heart into fashion after his unprecedented start-up, and how he has used this platform to help generate true change in society.
