Ten of the Region’s Top Bartenders will Travel to the Mediterranean to Compete for the Title of “World’s Best Bartender”
Miami, FL—06/18/13—After months of gruelling competition, ten of the most talented bartenders from Latin America & the Caribbean will be travelling to the Mediterranean next month to represent their countries in the DIAGEO RESERVE WORLD CLASS Global Final being held from July 4-9. An international competition run this year globally across more than 50 countries, DIAGEO RESERVE WORLD CLASS aims to ‘raise the bar’ by educating and inspiring bartenders to create exceptional cocktails and experiences.
Now in its fifth year, DIAGEO RESERVE WORLD CLASS has become a permanent fixture for mixology heavyweights of the luxury drinks industry. What began as a bartending training program is now an internationally recognized annual event that elevates the fine drinking category and is changing the face of cocktail culture by creating luxury experiences for consumers.
Held aboard boutique Azamara Club Cruise’s ship, Azamara Journey, the DIAGEO RESERVE WORLD CLASS Global Final voyage begins in the French Riviera and will include stopovers in some of the Mediterranean’s most iconic and chic destinations. The week-long competition is replete with an exploration of mixology’s next biggest trends. A star-studded roster of bartenders from the four corners of the globe will make this year the biggest and most impressive yet – with more than 10,000 contenders battling their way to the prestigious Global Final to win the acclaimed title of DIAGEO RESERVE WORLD CLASS “Bartender of the Year.”
Vying for the title from Latin America & the Caribbean are: Brazil’s Diego Barcellos from the Alchemist Brothers Bar in Rio de Janeiro; the Cayman Islands’ Simon Crompton from Agua Restaurant & Lounge in Grand Cayman; Colombia’s José María Garcés Cadavid from the Awa Helada Club in Baranquilla; Costa Rica’s Clark Jiménez Alvarado from 8vo Rooftop in San José; the Dominican Republic’s Edwin Castillo from Wines & Spirits Boutique in Santo Domingo; El Salvador’s Martha Sandoval from Casa Il Bongustaio in San Salvador; Mexico’s Moisés Sierra Saenz from Bar Aurora in Mexico City; Panama’s Enrique Auvert from Teatro Amador in Panama City; Puerto Rico’s Mario Seijo from La Placita de Santurce in San Juan; and Trinidad & Tobago’s Kester Blake from Club Zen in Port of Spain.
Industry aficionado, and Global Final judge representing Latin America & the Caribbean, Arturo Savage noted: “My fellow judges and I were met with an extremely high caliber of talent, all displaying an exceptional instinct for bartending. If successful at the Global Final, the DIAGEO RESERVE WORLD CLASS Bartender of the Year will set forth on a life-changing journey. Previous winners of have become recognized industry names, travelling the globe as a WORLD CLASS Ambassador, participating in international high-profile events and gone on to receive numerous accolades. Following his win in 2010, Erik Lorincz, personally worked as a consultant and head bartender for Petra Ecclestone’s lavish wedding, as a consultant on the casino scene for the latest James Bond film Skyfall and worked with Cartier to create a signature cocktail for a new product launch. 2012 winner Tim Philips has opened his own bar, Bulletin Place, to critical acclaim and is currently working with celebrated Australian chefs Colin Fassnidge, Wayd Bailey and Eric Pernoud to create a six-course WORLD CLASS cocktail and food pairing menu that will be served at the Noosa Food and Wine Festival in May.
