Frank Robinson is the chief alchemist at his recently opened apothecary of spirits, BES Craft Cocktail Lounge in downtown Christiansted, St. Croix, US Virgin Islands. A true alchemist, Frank possesses the power to transmute his signature infusions into mysterious, inexplicably tantalizing cocktails. Frank has elevated Caribbean cocktails into art and he has multiple Stoli Cocktail Masters awards to prove it.
When I asked Frank Robinson what he would like the world to know about the driving force behind BES, he became noticeably emotional and said, “I believe love is all we need. I put love in my food. I put love in my drinks.”
BES Craft Cocktail Lounge is a welcome respite. A place to mingle amongst an eclectic crowd comprised of locals and tourists, seeking to imbibe the Crucian essence of St. Croix. BES is the living room of your most awake Caribbean friend; the one who reminds you the meaning of life lies in the sensuality of experiences and people.
BES Craft Cocktail Lounge does not disappoint. Everything about the experience is layered in love, from the delectable names of cocktails like The Darker the Berry or Kearns’ Nectar, named for his wife and partner, Danielle, to the time Frank takes to personally forage wild flora such as lemongrass and purslane, to the herbs he grows, and the days he spends fermenting local herbs, fruits, and vegetables in Stoli vodka, El Jimador tequila, Cruzan rum or Bombay Sapphire gin. Layers upon layers of love go into each and every cocktail experience.
Upon entering, you’ll hear the sultry soundtrack of lush vibes and be enveloped in a dimly lit authentic wood interior, in all its shades of mocha and mahogany – evidence of history past. You can feel it. The gritty love; the real love!
Frank’s famous infusions are the main component of his creative cocktails. Infusions like patchouli bourbon, noni or gooseberry rum; muskmelon in Stoli vodka, local Suriname and West Indian cherries infused in rum, gin or vodka. Or maybe carrots and tarragon in Bombay Sapphire gin, a raisin rum, Asian pears in vodka, or golden beet bitters. Infusions to meet your taste, your personality or your mood!
BES Craft Cocktail Lounge uses organic local produce and other Caribbean products in its authentic small plates created daily to compliment its handcrafted cocktails. Yet, it is more than the ingredients that are organic. BES Craft Cocktail Lounge signals a new type of organic business growth in St. Croix. BES Craft Cocktail Lounge is open Wednesdays through Saturdays serving small plates 5 pm until midnight and Frank’s award winning cocktail creations until 2 am daily. Menus change weekly.
