With more than 10 top notch local and international designers showing their pieces at Montego Bay’s favourite and most fashion forward entertainment street party, RIP the STRIP; it promises to be a non-stop, high energy show.
The kick-off to the OCEAN Style Fashion Showcase Weekend shifts into high gear at 8 p.m. on October 23, 2014 at the Old Hospital Park on Montego Bay’s Hip Strip.
Douglas Gordon, of OCEAN Style, stated, “We are looking forward to a great evening of fashion and music in the tourism capital of Jamaica. This event is all about everyone having a good time….Montegonians, Jamaicans, tourists and of course our special guests from overseas. We look forward to showing them the best of the Caribbean both in terms of production and the energy of the people. We are delighted to partner with the St. James Parish Council and Margaritaville in particular to be able to produce this event and without cost to the patrons.”
For the second year in a row, the OCEAN Style Fashion Showcase Weekend takes its exceptional blend of haute couture, celebrity entertainment and intense rhythms to the streets.
Hosted by Miss Kitty, Jamaica’s ‘Fluffy Diva’, with Tanya Stephens billed to take the stage and DJ Neil, Vice Gooden and BLU controlling the rhythms, the street party will deliver on its promise.
This year’s runway will feature pieces from the region’s top design houses. House of ‘cANYAval’ from Project Runway’s winner Anya-Ayoung-Chee will make its Jamaican debut. Much loved Drenna Luna designs will also be on show.
Toya Taylor, who has recently returned from a successful show at the Pittsburgh Style Week, is also billed. Other design houses are Heather Lane, T&T Fashions, Flirt Boutique, Ms Jaye, Franz Christie, Simple 1 Clothing, Dacian Alexander. Outfits will be complemented by accessories and bags from the homegrown line Iela.
An opportunity for many to see and hang with celebrities typically only accessed on the big screen; it’s also the first real taste that the OCEAN Style celebrities will have of the much vaunted island entertainment.
As last year’s attendee, Stylist to the Stars Phillip Bloch shared, for him RIP the STRIP was a wonderful chance to get “turned up with Montego Bay’s style soldiers.”
This year’s celebrity line-up includes Dauntless star Mekhi Phifer, Nicole Murphy, John Salley and Allan Thicke, Omar Benson Miller and Black-ish lead, Anthony Anderson.
The weekend’s itinerary continues on October 24, 2014 with the Anthony Anderson Golf Classic, the OCEAN Style Fashion Award Dinner followed by OCEAN Style’s ultra-party Eyes Wide Shut on Friday.
Saturday, October 25, the event opens with the OCEAN Style Celebrity Golf Invitational at White Witch Golf Course and ends with The Fashion Showcase at the Iberostar Suites.
