Royal House of Mandela Gala Dinner Honours Legacy of South African Legend in Cannes

Fashion, film, philanthropy and politics are set to collide this May as the Cannes Fashion Festival hosts a VIP event to celebrate the Mandela International Film Festival hitting European shores. The event is officially titled the “Royal House of Mandela Gala Dinner, presenting the Mandela International Film Festival in honour of the Legacy of Nelson Mandela, with the support of the Mandela Foundation” and is set to attract a flock of distinguished guests.

Held on the evening of May 20, the gala dinner is a momentous start to what is pegged as one of the most glamorous events of the year. Guests arrive at 7.30pm to walk the red carpet, pose for the paparazzi and flaunt their latest looks. At 8pm dinner commences, followed by live entertainment, fashion show and a live auction. It’s haute couture meets humanitarianism in what’s sure to be one of the most memorable nights that Cannes has ever seen.

Rose Marie Perez, Cannes Fashion Festival Director said, “The Royal House of Mandela Gala Dinner falls on the opening evening of the Cannes Fashion Festival and needless to say, we’re thrilled to share the date with such an honourable cause. Fashion and film are both fine arts and we hope that their collision in the French Riviera will inspire people to realise the crucial role they play in shaping the face of society and changing it for the better.”

Following its official launch in December 2014 the Mandela International Film Festival has already elicited excitement and support among highbrow industry insiders such as the Tribeca Film Festival organisers. The Festival’s value theme is Hope and Reconciliation. In many ways it offers celebrities an opportunity to endorse and further Mandela international legacy.

His Royal Highness iNkosi Zwelivelile Mandela, grandson of Nelson Mandela and official patron of the film festival said, “The Mandela Film Festival inaugural year will honour the film, entertainment and media legends that made a continuous effort to keep South Africa top of mind during the apartheid era as South Africa celebrates 20 years of freedom and independence.”

With a guest list of esteemed personalities from the politics and diplomatic world, as well as film industry representatives, fashion greats and A-list celebrities, the night will be one of the most fashionable events to grace the 2015 Cannes calendar.
