Hearts for Hanover Charities – 2015 Sugar Cane Valentines Ball to Celebrate Hollywood Glitz & Glamour
It is that time again when Hanover Charities hosts their very special event, the Sugar Cane Ball, this year being celebrated on Valentines Day Saturday, February 14 – at the glamorous Round Hill Hotel & Villas in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
A fixture on the international and local social scene, which sees the good and the great gathering from all over the world – the 2015 Sugar Cane Ball, now in its 58th outing, will celebrate the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
Last year, Hanover Charities broke its own records and raised over US$230,000 in the single night, so the pressure is on!

Says chair of Hanover Charities and this year’s co-chair for the Sugar Cane Ball Katrin Casserly “The majority of our funds are raised from the Silent Auction items for the ball, which are always unique and one-off, gathered by the very generous homeowners of Round Hill and Tryall. Last year they outdid themselves and promise to do so again for Valentines!”
Co-chair of Hanover Charities and also this year’s Sugar Cane Ball, Jennifer Flanagan of Tryall adds“ We were beyond thrilled with the generosity of the partygoers last year. Our dedicated committee members and their neighbours at Round Hill and Tryall want to see our many projects continue & grow so we are really looking forward to see what they have for us this year”.
One of the premier partys’ during the busy winter social calendar – the Sugar Cane Ball, which specifically raises money for Hanover Charities, has become synonymous with chic – and this year will be no exception celebrating Hollywood with international and local guests partying for a good cause.
With the Sugar Cane Ball’s Silent Auction long being a highlight of the evening like last year’s Dinner At Downton Abbey, this year’s items are already on par such as lunch and private tour with Lord Spencer-Churchill at Blenheim Palace, home of the Dukes of Marlborough and the Spencer-Churchill’s – the Churchill family having a long association with Jamaica.
The Sugar Cane Ball Raffle tickets are also highly anticipated – especially as patrons don’t have to attend to have a ticket – and with a US$5000 spending spree at Ralph Lauren, who wouldn’t want to try their luck!
All proceeds from this special night, including a week-long Gallery of West Indian Art Exhibition, go directly to fund the many projects of Hanover Charities – in the past 10 years alone, nearly US$3,000,000 has been donated from this single evening event.
Where to the funds go? — Education is a key focus for Hanover Charities and there are several education-based schemes supported by the ball’s funds, including from 2014, 72 scholarships that have been awarded in the fields of medicine, law, education, social work and communications.
There is a soup kitchen feeding over 700 people a week, and an annual health fair as well as many other permanent projects.
