Tommy Hilfiger’s Paradise Inspired Collection

Tommy Hilfiger Paradise LineAmerican fashion designer, Tommy Hilfiger found inspiration in the Caribbean and the bold red, green and gold synonymous with Rastafari, the Abrahamic religion which developed in Jamaica in the 1930s, following the coronation of Haile Selassie I as Emperor of Ethiopia.

TOMMY3The designer’s Spring/Summer 2016 presentation was hosted at New York Fashion Week, where Hilfiger chose to embody the island theme by sending models down the runway in knit swimwear, crocheted tams and mesh tops and sundresses. As Vogue pointed out, one look featured a tracksuit that looked very similar to one Marley sported back in the ’70s.

If the source of inspiration weren’t obvious enough, one piece in the collection was printed with the words Island Girl and others with a lion’s face prominently featured, another throw to Rastafari and the significance of the lion as a symbol of it’s followers divine linage. TOMMY2
