Trinidad and Tobago Fashion and Cultural Explosion Set for New York Wednesday

NEW YORK (June 5, 2012) – Afficianados in the tri-state area of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut are set to experience an exquisite taste of Caribbean culture with the sensational creations of Trinidadian fashion designer Anya Ayoung Chee this Wednesday, June 6 at the “Color + Sound” extravaganza in New York City.

The invitation-only event, being held at 632 on Hudson at 6 p.m., will promote Trinidad and Tobago and the Caribbean region to key members of the American and Caribbean Diasporic media, influencers within the global travel industry, and the style-conscious American and Caribbean-American traveler during Caribbean-American Heritage Month and Caribbean Week in New York.

Trinidadian designer and Project Runway season 9 winner, Anya Ayoung Chee, will take center stage as she delivers a sneak preview of her highly anticipated Summer 2012 collection, inspired by her passion for the colorful, diverse cultural history of the twin island republic. This capsule collection will soon be available on www.anyaayoungchee.com.

“Fashion is an integral component of our heritage and to be able to promote the creativity of our islands to the world continues to be a mission I am extremely grateful to champion,” said Ayoung Chee, who was appointed an official tourism ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago this year.

Caribbean jazz sensation Etienne Charles and his Quintet of musicians are slated to perform tracks from the new Kaiso album, which features modern jazz renditions of timeless classics from legendary calypsonians, including the late Lord Kitchener.

The cultural explosion, produced by the Antilia Caribbean entertainment brand known for its high-end offerings, will also celebrate Trinidad and Tobago’s 50th anniversary of independence. “The Color + Sound production has been coordinated to underscore the richness and vibrancy inherent in Trinidad and Tobago’s culture, to showcase the beauty of a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural society, and to utilize the world’s fashion capital, along with our unparalleled local talent, to celebrate the Golden Jubilee and the magic of sweet T and T,” announced Simon Khan, Antilia’s chief executive officer.

The Tourism Development Company (TDC) of Trinidad and Tobago- and Tobago House of Assembly (THA)-sponsored event will pay tribute to the best of authentic ‘Trinbagonian’ and Caribbean culture from yesteryear, while providing a platform for new and exciting young talent.
